Get ready for the ride of your life as the new PAPERBOY for the neighborhood. What a neighborhood! Watch out for runaway lawnmowers, a boom box or two, a guy on a unicycle and, of course, break dancers. Every day you make your rounds, delivering papers to your subscribers. Throw the paper at the wrong time, and you might break a window. Throw it at just the right time, it lands in the mail box and you get extra points. At the end of the day you gain or lose subscribers, depending on your performance. Crash too often and you will be forced into an early retirement. The more experience you get, the toughter the obstacles. Watch out for that construction worker! Pedal faster to get away from that dog! Look out for that car! Oh well…just another day in the neighborhood.

One look at Paperboy's bright, vivid graphics, and you know you're in for some good-time arcade action. You play the role of a kid on a bicycle delivering papers on a suburban street. The screen scrolls diagonally, giving you an isometric view of the action. Riding on the sidewalk, street, or grass, you'll need to avoid all sorts of obstacles like dogs, run-away lawnmowers, construction workers, and kids on unicycles. Spinning breakdancers and boom boxes give the game an unmistakable 80's flavor. When you start off most houses are fair game, but as you progress you'll gradually lose customers (indicated by black houses). You adjust the speed of your bike by pushing up or down. You can toss the paper onto the customer's porch or into his mailbox, but be careful not to break a window. At first I didn't even notice the mailboxes on the lawns because they tend to blend into the bright brown dirt of the flowerbeds. At the end of the street is a little off-road course that lets you hit bonus targets and jump ramps. It comes to an end at some bleachers with girls holding signs that say „I LUV U“. You then get a quick recap of what customers you lost before starting over. Paperboy is a lighthearted game with a fine sense of humor. Once you figure it out, you'll be playing it over and over again. - Videogamecritic.com

I remember when I was a kid, my brother and I came across this arcade game at our local pizza parlor. Like many arcade games at that time, there was something that would draw players in. The handle bars for a regular ten speed bike stuck right out of the stand up arcade machine. We were sold, quarter after quarter was put into the machine as we waited for our pizza to get cooked. Would there ever be a home version worthy of this arcade classic, only time would tell. The gameplay is what makes this title great. The idea that you are a literal paperboy draws the player in. This isn't just any paperboy, he must dodge a series of obstacles along the way. You also get to decided if you are going to be a good paperboy and do your best to deliver the paper to every subscriber. Or break the house windows of nonsubscribers and knock over their trash. You could even be a hero and stop a burglar in the process. Your whole goal is to make it the end of week and with your choices of Easy, Medium and Hard, it makes the player want to come back for more. […] After writing this review, I really feel like I need to play some Paperboy. It is something anyone could sit down and do. The game is basic, yet fun. Even if you are a newer gamer, the graphics and gameplay could still get you hooked. It just a classic like may games of that time. If you need a trip down memory lane, this game on the Sega Master System will do it for you. Or, if you are a new gamer and like the classics, this one is for you. - www.smstributes.co.uk
