- | //Championship Hockey is an Ice Hockey game where players can play International level matches between the 22 available nations in ether in one match or elimination playoffs. The game is played from a birds eye view from over the top one side of the hockey rink's goals with a camera that scrolls up and down the length of the hockey rink. The player can play 5, 10, or 20 minute periods (3 in each game, not done in real time). There is a total of 6 players on the ice for each team, five that the player can take control of plus the CPU controlled goaltender. When the player hasn't got the puck the player can cycle though the available players or make the selected player move faster. To challenge the opponent for the puck, all the player has to do is be near the player with the puck. When the player is in control of the puck the player has the option of shooting for a goal or passing to another player. If the player has the penalties option turned on, penalties like Cross Check (pushing an opponent into the wall), Hooking (holding a player back), Roughing (striking another player) result in a player been sent of for 2 game minutes. There are 3 game modes available been Regular Season, New Playoff, and Best Of 7. Regular season is one match between two countries of the player's choice. New Playoff is where 16 teams play in an elimination contest where the last team standing wins (4 games total). Best Of 7 is where 16 teams play and the first team to get 4 victories wins.// - Mobygames.com | + | ^Kommentare^ |
- | //Ahhahaahah ahha haa ha!!!!! This is the greatest thing ever!!!!! Hhah ahaah aha ahahaha!!!!! Oh boy, this is so hilarious. Where to even begin? I purchased this game for a ridiculous amount of money (don't even ask how much or why) and then scolded myself for doing so. That was, however, until I actually received the game in the mail and popped it in. What I witnessed was one of the greatest things ever. A game for the SMS that COMPLETELY sucks in such a way as to be one of the grandest pieces of suck EVER created. Well, I think it's obvious, this is a hockey game. But, remember, it's a very SUCKY hockey game, and a very sucky game in general. First, let me remind you of why I love sucky games. They suck so bad, that all you can do is laugh continuously while doing various things. You often don't actually play the game as it was meant to be played because there are so many glitches and bugs that's it's simply a treat to discover them all. In Championship Hockey, you find essentially all of the "modes" of play that you'd find in any other sports type game. There's regular play, league, demo, and so forth. You select your teams, organize things, and blah blah blah you get the point. The interface is actually set up well, so I was a little disappointed there, it didn't suck enough. But, I suppose the true suck should only be reserved for the game proper, which I am now getting to. Okay, so you think you've seen it all? Well think again. This game is so TERRIBLY programmed that it is nearly unbelievable. The computer is so bad at moving its players around that you'll never have a problem getting the puck to the net. When you get there, all you have to do is move to the left or right slightly in front of the goal and shoot at the angle which you are moving. Bam, goal every time, and I'm not kidding. It's hilarious. I played a bit again last night and in like 5 minutes seriously scored 11 GOALS. Wait, just wait, you think that's funny? Well, get a load of these glitches. First, you have the "shoot the puck THROUGH the net and don't get any points" glitch. It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. If you shoot close to the goal, or sometimes from other directions, the puck will actually go THROUGH the net and you won't get a goal. Second, to add to the hilarity, if the puck lays right behind the goal, the computer CANNOT get its players to get the puck. As it tries they sit on either edge of the back of the goal twitching and frolicking like complete manic fools. I couldn't stop laughing. Third, if you pay attention, you'll sometimes notice your OWN players fighting with each other! WHAT?!!!!!!! AHAHA AHHAHAA HAH!!!!! It's quite funny, they twitch around and run into each other as though they were opposing players. Speaking of twitching, this is good, you'll notice that your characters, as well as the computer's, do this almost constantly as they move around. It's this odd involuntary looking set of movements that obviously has to do with the graphics, but I'll get to that later. What else? Hmmmmm. Oh yes, I could not seem to figure out how to control my goalie ONLY when the computer was shooting from far away. This means that the computer would shoot down the screen so I couldn't actually see where my goalie was until the puck went in the net. In addition, there were times when the puck would go THROUGH my goalie somehow. I figured just move him around and he'll block. Sometimes it works, but other times wonderful things happen. Here's another one before I finish this section. Get this, I discovered that often you can just run your player with the puck straight INTO the opposing goalie and magically score a goal! What bliss! Even better, one time I did this and the puck somehow got stuck behind the other team's goalie. Then, ahahah aahhahaa, an opposing player went to get the puck and started twitching in place until the period ran out!!!!! HhH AHAHA AHAHA HAHAHA!!!!! Championship Hockey is another piece of humor for all you suck loving gamers out there. It's the SUCKIEST I've personally ever seen. I'm sure there are plenty more glitches to discover, so I'm ready for a wealth of hilarity in this little beauty. [...] This is the crown jewel of suck. Let me explain a bit better. See, when something sucks, it can suck in one of two ways. It will either be so sucky that it will be completely unplayable and not even bearable for more than a few moments. OR, and this is the important difference, it will suck in such a way as to bring hours of enjoyment and laughter. Championship Hockey does just that, and I revel in it.// - www.smstributes.co.uk | + | //At first this appears to be a nice attempt at a football (soccer) game on a system with just two action buttons. Made in conjunction with the 1992 European Championships in Sweden and even featuring the mascot that adorned the tournament's merchandise, Berni the bunny, you have the choice to play as any team from Europe at the time (a lot has changed since then though). Choose from practice, demo, exhibition or tournament matches in 1 player or 2 player mode. The length of each football match can be changed from 3, 5, 8 or 10 minutes per half and there are a host of other options, including after-touch, wind strength and weather conditions. All of the necessary options for a good football game appear to be present. The tournament itself is based around the UEFA Championship, starting with a set of qualifying leagues before moving into the knock-out stages. It isn't just the teams that featured in Euro '92 can be picked; every country eligible for the tournament is in the game, shown way of a map of Europe. Unfortunately the map where you select the teams is poor. It isn't due to the Master Systems graphical limitations either, it's just badly drawn and out of proportion. The names of the countries are all in their own languages too, so unless you have good geographical knowledge of Europe in the early 90's you'll find it a challenge just knowing which team you picked, mostly where Eastern Europe is concerned. This wasn't an issue upon release, but nowadays it is. Gameplay is extremely hampered by the lack of control you have over the players and the ball, but more about that later. The AI of the computer controlled teams is just as hapless, they all run around aimlessly which just makes their actions too confusing to react to and deal with. The view of the pitch is a top-down one, leaving you with sight of only your immediate surroundings, also of little use in a sport that relies on awareness of the other areas of the pitch and of who is positioned where. Your awareness of where other players are on the pitch is extremely limited, there is a radar but because play moves so fast and you need all of your concentration on the ball you don't have time to even glance at the radar, making it redundant. Even if you could look at it once in a while, the dots representing your players are almost indistinguishable from those of the opposite team. There also appears to be no difference between each team's abilities at all, no statistics that affect play and very few options in play besides run and kick. Oh you can add after-touch to the ball, but kicking the ball in a straight line is as likely to achieve a goal as using after-touch since the goal keepers are slow and their movements very limited. This brings me to another flaw - penalty taking. There are some glitches in this section of the game which make taking penalties a rather random affair, not least of which is the ball sometimes going in the opposite direction of where you want it to. On occasion the ball will pass right through the goalkeeper. [...] It could have been great - Champions of Europe had an official license and looked very good - but there's no fun here and no challenge worth persevering for. It fails on the essentials.. running with and kicking the ball.// - www.smstributes.co.uk |
